Eco Update: Snowboard Biofilm

Every snowboard in the Arbor line is built with an ultra thin protective top foil made using 30% caster bean based bio-plastic. This top sheet protects the board from damage caused by loose bindings, out-of-control skiers, or other unforeseen impacts. Its natural glossy nature also eliminates the need for environmentally harmful clear coats.

The castor oil plant, Ricinus communis, is a species of flowering plant in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. Castor oil is a vegetable oil obtained from the plants seed, the castor bean – which, despite its name, is not a true member of the bean family. Castor oil itself is a colorless to very pale yellow liquid with mild or no odor or taste. Industry uses yearly six to eight hundred million pounds of castor oil and its derivatives have applications in the manufacturing of soaps, lubricants, hydraulic and brake fluids, paints, dyes, coatings, inks, cold resistant plastics, waxes and polishes, nylon, pharmaceuticals, perfumes, Arbor snowboard topsheets and more.

Eco Update: Reclaimed Wood POP

Arbor partnered with a local wood worker and artist to create one-of-a kind in-store branding from reclaimed mahogany wood. Striving to stretch this valuable resource, we strategically produced the highest yield of signs, which resulted in unique shapes and sizes. Each sign, already weathered by the environment, was laser etched with the new Arbor apparel logo. Waste Not!

Eco Update: Recycled Glass Grip

Arbor is always seeking the most environmentally responsible performance enhancing options for their products. Arbor Skateboards teamed with Lucid Grip to ensure that the beautiful piece of Hawaiian Koa or Bamboo under your feet is perfectly translucent yet keeps your feet planted firm.

The Lucid Grip on Arbor skateboards is a crushed recycled glass and is applied using a water based sealant. It allows the beautiful top ply of your skateboard to shine through while making sure you have enough grip to keep your feet locked on.

Now you can now get patch kits of Lucid Grip so if your grip wears down on your skateboard, you can easily patch it up.

You can feel good about taking another small step for the environment with Arbor Skateboards.

Arbor Eco Update: Nano Bamboo

Nano Bamboo is created from bamboo that is heated at high temperatures into charcoal and then infused into the fabric. The use of bamboo charcoal goes as far back as the 1400’s during the Chinese Ming Dynasty. Fabrics infused with nano bamboo particles are quick drying and naturally resistant to mold and bacterial growth, which can cause odor and skin irritation. Arbor uses this fabrication in our boardshorts and Windward Jacket. Bamboo is today’s most renewable, sustainably grown raw material.
