Arbor Founder, Bob Carlson on 20 Years of Business
Boardsport Source: The Arbor collective has been running for 20 years. Please give us a brief timeline of when the company was founded, through to 2015 mentioning any significant landmarks on the way?
Bob Carlson: The Arbor Collective was created by a group of us that grew up along the Los Angeles County Coast in the 80s. Life was about surfing, skating, and going for it as hard and often as we could. By the end of the decade we had all started snowboarding and quickly became fixated on the possibilities that this new sport had opening up.
We rode Big Bear and Mammoth as much as we could through the early 90s. If we worked, it was only so we could afford to ride. In 1995 we funnelled that passion into The Arbor Collective, which we officially launched in November of that year. We were convinced that there was a need for a snowboard and skateboard brand built around the ideals of our generation. To that end, Arbor was, and is today about great times, great friends, great design, great craftsmanship, and the greatest possible respect for the planet we ride, skate, and surf.
